McCain Institute Hosts “UNSILENCED: A Conversation with Justice Defenders in Shaping Africa’s Future”
WHAT: The McCain Institute at Arizona State University will host a virtual event titled « UNSILENCED: A Conversation with Justice Defenders in Shaping Africa’s Future. » This panel discussion features Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) from Africa who are navigating a landscape of unprecedented repression. While global attention often fixates on regions like China, Ukraine/Russia, and the Middle East, African defenders frequently remain overshadowed even though they contend not only with repressive governments but also with influences from China and Russia. This event will spotlight how these defenders are confronting both internal and external pressures amidst the broader challenges facing African nations, which are often absent from the global discourse. Join us to understand the pressing challenges these activists face—from arrest, torture, to harassment—and how they continue to advocate for justice and human rights in their respective countries. We hope you will join us for this compelling discussion and look forward to your participation in supporting these crucial voices from Africa.
WHEN: Tuesday, July 30, at 10:30 a.m. ET
WHERE: This event will be held via Zoom. Click here to RSVP
