African Elections 2024: Ideology and Practices of Interference

Happy Africa Day to everyone!

As part of the Africa Day celebrations, members of Democratic Solidarity Africa and the Forum 2000 Foundation have released a publication focusing on election interference in Africa. The year 2024 marks a significant moment for elections worldwide. Across Africa, 16 countries have already held or are preparing for elections, with South Africa commemorating 30 years of post-apartheid rule. Numerous pressing topics are shared among African nations. This paper delves into how African elections are shaped and influenced by ideology, citizen engagement, and culture.

The authors of this paper, all members of Democratic Solidarity Africa, include Roukaya Kasenally, who provided invaluable guidance, alongside Mulle MusauAndrea Ngombet, and Herbert Mba Aki. The inception of this paper arose from discussions within the Democratic Solidarity Africa project, highlighting the collaborative effort of its members during project activities.
